Overview
Betfred were formed in 1967 and are now one of the UK's biggest high street bookmakers with over 500 shops – they are also the world’s biggest independent bookmaker with turnover in excess of £1 billion. The Betfred marketing department promotes themselves as the "Bonus king" and Fred Done (the owner and a massive Man Utd fan) famously paid out on Manchester United to win the title in the mid 90's - they were subsequently overhauled by Arsenal.
The online operation was launched in 2004 and the website feels a little “busy” at first (especially the home page) but is easy to use and navigate around.
Odds are normally very competitive for UK racing and football (even more so when Man United are involved). They also regularly offer extra places on high profile horse racing and sporting events.
Customer service is not 24/7 however response within opening hours is always very quick with emails to the relevant departments the best way of getting a quick answer.

Summary
An excellent bookmaker with a rock solid reputation - the bonus and additional offers will mean you will often choose them for a big event.
